REBUILDING SAFELY AT GROUND ZERO.
New York New Jersey Port Authority places high priority on safety by selecting and maintaining Advanced Detection Technology’s LowCam™ VI108 Under Vehicle Inspection Systems.
Maiden, NC 18 February 2010
The goal of building a brighter, more vibrant future for downtown New York is well under way. In 2002, ground was broken on construction of five new World Trade Center buildings. The completed skyscrapers will not only offer traditional commercial and office space, but also include retail stores, a modern transportation system/hub, a performing arts center, and commemorative memorials to the September 11th events. With the assurance of making the New York skyline whole again, the construction is also promised to provide a significant economic boost for the city while dramatically enhancing the quality of life for the people who live, work, and visit the downtown area.
| The World Trade Center rebuilding project not only showcases the most environmentally conscious concepts, technologically advanced equipment, and brilliant architectural designs, but as one would expect, security is headlining as a premier element of the construction site as well. Building plans are reported to “…incorporate the highest standards of sustainable design and safety systems that exceed the city's building codes and Port Authority requirements.” | ![]() |
In 2008, the New York New Jersey Port Authority construction management purchased several Advanced Detection Technology’s LowCam™ VI108 units to serve as portable under vehicle inspection systems (UVIS) to examine commercial, construction, and passenger vehicles entering and exiting the construction grounds. An under vehicle inspection system helps security personnel detect any abnormalities, such as a potential bomb, in the undercarriage of a vehicle by capturing high quality images that are presented on-screen for immediate review.
“I have visited the construction site several times over the last year to train individuals and evaluate our equipment in the field, and I must say, it is a true honor to be working with such a significant part of American history,” Chris Carpenter, Eastern U.S. Sales Representative reveals.
Over the last two years, the New York New Jersey Port Authority has put the LowCam™ units to the ultimate test of strength and durability. Full dump trucks, front loaders, cement trucks and other heavy equipment are routine daily traffic on the construction site. The LowCam™ VI108 UVIS are designed to handle the site’s high volumes of traffic traveling over rough surface conditions such as asphalt, concrete, gravel or dirt and have held to this great responsibility.
The World Trade Center construction site has recently returned the LowCam™ units for Advanced Detection Technology to overhaul and update the systems with the latest software, which incorporates automatic start/stop of vehicle recording and a vehicle sequenced queuing feature. The servicing will also add military-spec rugged cables and connectors, LowCam™ rough terrain kit, and a routine system check, including cleaning, fresh paint and any warranty repairs.
Our company is proud to be an active part of the continuing security efforts of the New York New Jersey Port Authority.
